EU investment
Company UAB Polylema is implementing the EU co-financed project UAB Polylema R&D in order to invent a new tire recycling technologies and bring new products to the market on a global scale.
Currently, there are three main directions for dealing with the disposal of used tires: the re-use, incineration or storage of rubber waste in specially adapted landfills. Unfortunately, there is no way to recover rubber or recycle tires.
This project aims to fundamentally improve the innovative tire recycling technology. The technology consists of the following elements:
The two-component mixture of the compatibilizer and the catalyst is intended for a tire (rubber chips) recycling reactor (recycling line). And the technological (operating modes) regulation of this reactor. The reactor for the production of a compatibilizer. And the technological (operating modes) regulation of this reactor.
The technology will be used not only in the recycling of tires in the company's plants, but also in the production and sale to third parties of a mixture of a two-component compatibilizer and a catalyst that can be recycled using industrial reactors. This will ensure the rapid development of technology.
The aim of the project is to research and experimental development to achieve innovative technologies for the recycling of tires and rubber products.
The task of the project is to create a prototype of an innovative technology for recycling tires and rubber products.
The project is implemented in accordance with the Implementation Measure No. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856 “Experiment” of Priority 1 “Promotion of Research, Experimental Development and Innovation” of the European Union Funds Investment Operational Program for 2014–2020, project number 01.2.1-LVPA- K-856-01-0233.
The project budget is EUR 2,852,760.96. An investment amount of EUR 1,539,881.08 has been allocated from the European Regional Development Fund for the implementation of the project.
Project started in July 2020. The estimated duration of the project is 30 months.
About us
Polylema company is a member of the international innovative Rubinntec group. The group of companies has developed and patented in the United States a unique tire recycling technology that allows rubber to be fully recovered from the tires and used in the production of virtually any rubber product. This technology solves the global problem of tire recycling. During the project it is planned to substantially improve the current initial version of the technology by conducting the necessary research and technological development.
According to the European Tire & Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA), European countries collect and recycle 94% of their waste - used car tires (calculated in 2018). In the European Union (EU) countries, as well as in Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey, 3.5 million tonnes of end-of-life car tires have been recycled.
Lithuanian legislation stipulates that manufacturers and importers of tires must collect and recycle 80% of their tires separately (the total amount of tires supplied to the Lithuanian market). In 2016, according to the data of the Ministry of Environment, registered tire importers brought 25.3 thousand tons of tires to the Lithuanian market and properly disposed of 76.3 percent of all tires sold on the market, excluding those sold illegally.
Currently, there are three main directions for dealing with the disposal of used tires: the re-use, incineration or storage of rubber waste in specially adapted landfills. Unfortunately, there is no way to recover your tires or dispose of the tires cleanly.
Use
The developed new generation product can be used for practically any rubber or bitumen product.
- Car tires
- Industrial tires
- Solid tires
- Rubber for tire restoration
- Rubber tubes
- Conveyor belts
- Hoses and belts
- Rubber mats
- Shoe soles
- Gloves and other rubber articles
- Bituminous roofing material
- Material for asphalt road surface
Production process
Tire assembly
We are ready to clean the world of used tires.
Tire crushing
The tires are shredded as in any recycling process.
An ongoing process
The whole process uses a reactor for continuous decomposition of rubber crumbs - cracking.
Special component
In the recycling process, a compatibilizer from polymer waste helps to save and improves the devulcanization properties of rubber
Devulcanization
The joints formed in the rubber vulcanization process are broken down at the molecular level.
New product
A new generation product for rubber production is being developed.
Use of the product
As much as 70% of the new generation product can be used for the production of new rubber.
Sustainable product
Harmful rubbish is taken from nature and returns for reuse.
